Boulevard, I miss you!!!! Even years after moving to other states, coming back through Little Rock, I make sure to stop at Boulevard. Especially when searching for new good healthy places to eat in other cities, I think back to fail-proof healthy quick delicious lunches at Boulevard. Thank you for being wonderful! Rock on!!! Definitely recommending this place (see photo of my favorite Greek salad platter - yummm!)

One of the most important restaurants in Little Rock. Also, the best coffee and bread in town.

Place is fantastic. All the fresh breads are amazing, cookies are great and the staff are super friendly..... I'd recommend this place for everyone

LOVE this place! The food here is like what I found in Northern California wine country and gourmet eating abounds there! Wife and I were delighted to find mediterranean food like this here in AR! The sandwich's, bread and cookies were amazing! We love the sourdough bread we bought for our dinner; not aware of anywhere else to get sourdough east of the Sacremento river!

Food is better than Malvern subway but they don't have Doritos. If you want your sandwich "toasted" in this fancy cafe, you ask for it to be "panini'd". Tres bon! Good-natured service from white kids who are cooler than you. The employees' tattoos and life prospects are better than the employees at the Malvern subway. Ask them about their band. Any of them. Out of focaccia.

Ok. 5 stars. I parked here not knowing and as I walked toward the street the nicest guy apologized and said parking was for Boulevard. I could see the bar and multiple beer taps through the open door so we said, "let's eat here." Kismet. The beer selection is perfect, the atmosphere pleasant, the service friendly and the food sublime. Try the frites with curried ketchup, the crab cakes, awesome, we had ravioli and the duck. Oh. So. Good.

Why have decent food and a few underachieving staff working? How are they making tips by being rude? I suggest having secret shoppers come in and look at the feed back to consider looking into a solution for a lack of awareness and failure to want to even meet customers needs. I have Loved this place in the past but seriously, get over yourselves. I recently ordered the traditional pastrami and wonder what tradition it was inspired from. Both times the meat was cool. The 2nd time I ordered I requested sauerkraut and if I might have the bread toasted and it was delivered as requested but the whole sandwich was cool, like temperature cool. What up with that? The staff seems great and upfront and earnest but sometimes one bad apple spoils the bunch. I'll be back to try it again. Look at choice city butcher in Ft. Collins for inspiration or even Zingermans in Ann Arbor to right this Pastrami wrong.

Amazing cuisine and excellent service! My weekend treat often consists of the twin cakes. Crab and coconut. The crab cake has lump crab meat. Likewise, the placement on a bed of fresh greens highlights the succulent flavor. My happy ending is the coconut cake. This cake is truly moist and light with the perfect balance of coconut. Hope you enjoy the twins too!

I love boulevard but their startup as a full service restaurant in the last two weeks has had some issues. First, in the first week they cut their wine pour by 2 ounces, but not the price. The wait staff said that the management said that their research showed a pour as 5 ounces vs the 7 ounces previously poured. Wow, that is lame. They have cut back some hours as they were overwhelmed at the start. Some of the staff needs to be trained. Today we went for breakfast. The robot on the register just kept referring to the board versus talking through the options.. We left. There are some better places that appreciate the business in the Heights. Hey, how about getting it together before you open your new restaurant you spent a ton on?

Love it, love it, love it! Artisan breads, daily menu changes, and hard-to-find olive oils? Sign me up. Boulevard does a mean caprese panini and I have yet to have a bad soup. There tomato basil is a revelation! The seating is limited and can be a pain in the ass so only come here if you aren't in a rush, otherwise you'll just get frustrated. I know I already said it, but try the caprese panini! Fresh, light, and flavorful!

I've been eating here for over 10 years. The quality is as good as it gets for Little Rock. And I'm Avery picky eater and foodie. food is top notch. Best breakfast pastries (chocolate croissant, cinnamon rolls, apple t/o)......great panini selection (Parma, goat, tuna). Best turkey SANGWICH in town....... And the dinners are fantastic. Every night changes. Large gourmet cheese selection that goes great with their bread. (Which is used by many of the better restaurants in town). Gotta gotta try......

I like this place OK. The guy at the counter seemed too busy to help me. It lacks the cozy feel I like in coffee shops

Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here, especially after gambling on a few other not-so-great options during my stay in Little Rock. I ordered a customized half sandwich, which surprise, was a full sandwich! They were eager to accommodate my special requests and the french onion soup was delicious! I will definitely eat here again if I'm ever in Little Rock and my only regret is not trying out any of the desserts/baked goods.

They have a cheesemonger. Enough said, right? Ok, I'll say more. You should ask the cheesemonger if they have any fresh or locally made cheese. You might be rewarded, as I was, with a round of house-made goat's milk cheese covered with cranberries and nuts. They have all the favorites too like Humboldt Fog and Maytag Blue. Probably at least 20 cheeses on offer when I was there. I am obsessed with cheese, but the bakery is great too. To eat, I had a porchetta sandwich on chibatta. Porchetta is like carnitas, but not. I guess it's slow cooked pork. It was fantastic. The sammy was topped with arugula and a kind of garlic/mayo dressing. Yum. If I'd had time or the need, I would have bought a bunch of things from their gourmet foods collection. As it was, I got out of there with a cheese I didn't need, but which was later enjoyed by my family. If I lived in LR, I would be here once a week!

This is my favorite sandwich/bread/cookie/cake/cheese/quiche/coffee/espresso/hang out and it is always stocked with friendly faces and knowledgeable tasters. The staff go out of their way to make the food and experience perfect. Dinners are also delicious and now they are even open on Sunday. Boulevard is a haven for foodies and caffeinists. I've probably noshed there 500 times so far. Looking forward to #501.

Everything I have ever eaten here has thrilled my taste buds. I've never left disappointed and have eaten here many many times. One of the reasons that I eat there so often besides the food being outstanding, is to support the owners. Boulevard has supported with food. encouraging words and praise many of the non-profits which are doing such good work in LR including Earth Day and etc. I'm in awe of their vision and their generosity,

A delightful place-- a local bakery that produces awesome bread, pastries, sweets and delicious breakfast & lunch standards. This is our first visit! As an out-of-towner, I want to eat where the locals do, and this is the place for breakfast (and lunch). We fell in love with this place right after we walked in. This is their flagship store; two-third of the small space is packed with baked goods ( most of the counter is filled with fresh bagels, cookies and bread samples), cheeses and pickles.... My veggie panini was delicious; my travel companions enjoyed their pesto-goatcheese-pepperonatta sandwich and veggie sandwich. There are not many tables for eat-ins ( not god for large group); but they do have outdoor patio for warmer days. We also got some pastries; they were perfect snacks after our hike at the Tyler's Bend Trail. Their focaccia and rye sourdough were consumed happily by the tired travelers later back home. I recommend this place highly.

Very cool place to buy cheese. They have a ton of cool out-of-the-way stuff like Truffle Tremor, Cabrales and Gorgonzola Dolce. The prices are to be expected from this part of town, plan on a small-ish meal to set you back about ten bucks. We had the breakfast sandwich, which was tasty but extremely pedestrian, and a bagel thing with smoked salmon which was great. Fresh squeezed orange juice is for sale, always a favorite of mine. The four stars come primarily from how great the service was. Everyone was over-the-top friendly and extremely welcoming. I recommend heading there to have a small bite or try some fancy cheese, if you are stoned and starving, this probably isn't your place. I'll be back.

My go-to sandwich - The Vegan Hummus - has been my favorite for 6 years. Love the soups, the cheese selection and of course, the bread selection. Always a treat to eat and shop here.

Great for lunch. The BBC on Kavanaugh makes one dish for dinner with the selection posted on Facebook daily. I believe Friday is always a non-meat option, at least during lent. Soups are wonderful and change daily, again, selections posted on Facebook. Their iced tea is perfect and has a light peach flavor--the same is served at ZaZa's if you know it. The restaurants are owned by the same individual (though there have been some changes in business partnerships I don't recall--they're at least from the same father). The BEST dish, however, is the Goat Cheese and Peperonata sandwich. It's genius: goat cheese, grilled/preserved peppers, capers, and a pesto on bread so crunchy it'll scrape the roof of your mouth. Eat it with Zapp's crazy hot jalapeno chips.

As much as I love my Southern deep-fried goodness, it's nice to have some healthy, and sometimes organic, grub for a change. The coffee is very good, I usually get the White Mocha (guilty pleasure) or the Cafe Latte. I usually visit the downtown location during lunch breaks and get the Vegan Hummus sandwich with organic greens-tasty, filling, fresh! They give you the option of getting a fruit cup as a side. The fresh bread available for purchase is a plus. If you're ever in need of a french baguette, it's the place to go! The other plus is the beer & wine! They have a tiny, but yummy tap selection. The outdoor patio is a lovely place to sit & enjoy a meal, coffee, or just a beer on a nice day.

This is my favorite place to go to for lunch in Little Rock. Most sandwiches and salads I've had here have been excellent. My favorite sandwiches from here are the caprese and the pastrami. The only items on the menu I've been indifferent about is the turkey sandwich and the balsamic chicken sandwich (I prefer the salad version). This place is small, so I advise going when the weather is nice so you can take advantage of the outdoor dining area. Also, if you can, try to go before 12pm for lunch, because I've been there around 2pm and they were out of baguettes a few times.

What a pleasant surprise when I found this place and gave them a try for my catering needs. My offices are all looking for a good meal, and not the "same ole-same ole" catering that everyone Else uses. Well, this is the place. The sandwiches are one of a kind. The flavors stand out heads and shoulders above the traditional catered sandwich. I feed 25 people with the Executive sandwich plate and added the Hummus tray for 12. I got more attention and more personal time with my office staff than I would have gotten if it was a regular run of the mill catered lunch. The Hummus tray took the center stage though. Everyone stopped, looked, asked questions, and eventually tried all the choices it had to offer. Not everyone like every idem but almost everyone Loved parts of the tray. These guys are going straight to the TOP of my catering list for any meal needs in Little Rock. Oh, and make sure to let the guys and gals working hard behind the counter and grills know that you appreciate the extra attention they put into there craft. They are all truly food artist and complements are free to give but chariest treasures to those who receive.

Had lunch here today. Pretty casual place in the River Market area of Little Rock. We took the street trolley from our hotel. Great tour guide! A little bit like a Panera Bread kind of concept. I had an Asian Chicken Salad and my wife have a Rustico sandwich. My salad had a fantastic variety of greens - some I have never seen before. All were delicious. My chicken was cooked very nicely. Grilled and still very tender. There were whole slices of both grapefruit and oranges as well as crushed pecans on my salad. The dressing was very good. I enjoyed it. My only complaint is that I had to eat it with a plastic fork :( A salad of this caliber deserves silverware. The Rustico sandwich was chicken salad (chicken, onions and celery with balsamic vinaigrette) on a freshly baked delicious baguette. We also had one of their delicious, fresh baked chocolate chip walnut cookies. Yum!

Trendy- fabulous atmosphere. Good place to eat with friends or alone. I've seen women and men and people in their teens and in their sixties. They have their own parking lot, so you don't have to find parking nearby. Breakfast and lunch options are good. I always try to go to the location on River Street after they close, and they aren't open on Sunday. Both of the lunch items I have had are great. I haven't purchased any of the pastries, cheeses, or olives; but, I have heard that they are good.

We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and regularly visit our families in Arkansas. When we're in Arkansas we usually head for the barbecue and other things we don't usually eat in California, but as we passed through Little Rock today, we knew we'd be eating at a barbecue buffet tomorrow. So we were looking for something different. We found it at Boulevard, which is like a little slice of the San Francisco Bay Area in the middle of Arkansas. Boulevard is a cafe, bakery, and miniature gourmet/import grocery shop. Lots of nice-looking cheeses and salamis, beautiful sweet breads, etc. We didn't try any of the pastries, but we each had a "plate"--he had the Greek plate, I had the cheese plate. Definitely worth the $7.95, and a nice break from the upcoming week of fried food and barbecued meats. The workers are the happiest bakery employees I've ever seen--they were singing and joking with each other, and they were very helpful and friendly to us. Maybe they're just happy about saving the planet with their biodegradable disposable spoons and straws! I really appreciated the biodegradable items and the simple syrup for your iced tea (so you don't have to endlessly stir in granulated sugar--a nice touch rarely seen outside of Asia!). We plan to come back and pick up a loaf of the strawberry cream bread on our next trip through. I'm very glad B. K. reviewed it, because I wouldn't have found it otherwise! 100% recommended.

Cannot believe I'm the first to review this wonderful place. Scotty McGehee rocks! Boulevard was started by two total hardcore chefs who went off to California, damned determined to work for Alice Waters after they graduated from the California Culinary Academy in SF -- they worked for free -- how many guys will do that today to get the job they really want? -- and were soon on the payroll -- but soon became homesick for Arkansas. They realized with their skills, their knowledge, that they would be able to create a life for themselves that was certainly richer than a life behind the stove in any of the top restaurant cities where they would easily be able to get a job. In 1998, Scotty and Roger headed back home -- committed to build a business built on European-style breads and gourmet sandwiches -- certainly their popularity had taken hold in all major markets -- but there was nothing even close in Little Rock. Scotty's dad, the legendary Frank McGehee -- restaurateur, mentor, creator of some of Arkansas' most fun restaurants -- certainly influenced his talented son. Boulevard Bread Company started in 1999 as a take-out, full-service gourmet bakery, coffee shop, cafe and deli. Located in "The Heights", an upscale, traditional but burgeoning hip neighborhood in Little Rock, the business sold apx 60 varieties of imported cheeses, olives, 20 different hand-crafted artisan breads, Italian-style coffee, morning pastries, soups, salads, sandwiches, and fine Mediterranean-style pantry items -- breakfast, lunch, dinners to go -- and closed early to get home to their new wives and familes. In early 2002, Scotty opened a second location in downtown Little Rock in the Cox Creative Center, then closed it to open a larger loation at the River Market near the Clinton Library. (hope I have my facts straight, Scotty - it's been a while since I've been home...) A third location became operational in December 2003 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences campus. I'm so proud of him, I could bust. Sadly Roger passed away -- as did Scotty's dynamite dad (in 2005) -- he's had a few tough years, but he's resilient, and strong -- and committed to his vision -- and business is booming. Arkansas -- and visitors to this lovely state, pleas support locally made, locally produced, smart people making genuine "slow" food, served with passion, spirit and integrity -- not soul-less, processed junk... p.s. I'm completely addicted to his savory scones -- but since I live in Vegas, I'm simply tortured by the memory. When I'm home, this is the first stop off the plane before heading south...it's always a great "reunion" and inevitably I run into a host of old friends. Smart locals know that his dinner specials run out quickly -- so they place their orders early. During lunch, the lines can get long, but it's so worth the wait. Go eat, people! This is the real deal!

I moved to Little Rock recently and did a lot of research on restaurants, as I love eating and was worried I'd be stuck with chicken fried steak for the rest of my life (Californians really do believe that everything in the South is fried... which I'm learning is half true). Anyway... after reading reviews on Boulevard Bread Co I was SO excited to try it. So we did.. on our 2nd day in town. I LOVE it! I have eaten lunch here 3 times (and have only lived in Little Rock for 6 days). The tuna panini is fresh and delicious, the goat cheese panini is perfectly creamy and full of flavor, the caprese sandwich is exactly what you would expect it to be in the best Italian deli. I also love the vibe Boulevard Bread has. It's chill and yet welcoming - they have a Southern hospitality but seem more "hip and cool" than other places around Little Rock. Lastly, the chocolate chip pecan cookie... a must-have. I bought it today with the intention of eating only 1/4. I ate the whole thing before I started on my sandwich. Go to Boulevard Bread Company if you are in Little Rock. It's SO good.

Haven't been in awhile but if you've ever lived or hung out in the Bay Area - Boulevard is a little slice of it right here in Little Rock. Bottom line- they use fresh ingredients and they try to use/buy local. Nothing is BAD here. Sandwhiches are fantastic. Salads are unbeatable, pastries are incredible. Service is impeccable at the Heights location - I can't say that for the Rivermarket location. If you haven't been - GO. I think they have a great balsamic chicken salad - not sure if they still make that. Last time I was there they had one or two beers on tap at the Heights location- a great German beer when I was there.

As a long time Bay Area resident who grew up in LR, I second Jeff's comments below! Boulevard is one of these places that make me think for a minute that I really could move back to the Midwest, if they could just tone down the humidity and religious nuttiness. BA quality breads sandwiches, and gourmet foods.

Amazing. Always good. Great salads and sandwhiches. The location in the heights has an entree each evening available for dine in or carry out. The Christmas and Valentine's Day specials are always awesome and definitely worth putting your name on the list for. The greek sampler is awesome and the assortment of olives, cheeses and breads are great. Can't go wrong with the cookies either. And if you get there early in the morning, you might be lucky enough to grab one of their awesome bagels (although they call them something else.) And the soup of the day is always unique and worth a try! This really is the best bakery in Little Rock by FAR!!!!

  • Celeste C.

Boulevard's bread and bakery goods are made from scratch. The owner is usually there making sure things go smoothly. They open early and stay late. It's the best!

Dropped in this cozy little place on a Tuesday mid afternoon in January, so there was no crowd. When I step inside I feel a momentary rush of claustrophobia from the shear volume of edible matter, both what i see and what i smell, surrounding me... but I quickly realize this is a good thing. From a menu that included sandwiches, soups, salads and various specialty items, my friend and I decided to share the cheese plate which is your choice of any three of the many wonderful cheeses. We had lots of questions about the various types (are those pecans in the porter? does this one have a smokey flavor? which is your best brie?) and the staff was patiently, pleasantly helpful. The cheeses came on a bed of nice greens with marinated scallions, pickles, red peppers, nuts, olives, fruit (slices of apple, orange and pineapple) and a basket full of sliced baguette... all this for an unbelievably low $7.95. The young man behind the counter suggested a wine that's now one our favorite: Root: 1 Cabernet Sauvignon (Chile, $20 for a bottle). We ate in the tiny back dining section (as opposed to the tiny front dining section), which is virtually part of the kitchen, and got to watch the cooks taking the dinner chickens out of the ovens. i was impressed by the magazine selection (Belgian Elle, JPEG, Fader, etc) beside our table, and a young mother sitting near us decided to use the chess set to have a game with her daughter. On our way out we bought whole loaves of bread to take home. The shelves that line the front room are full of all sorts of gourmet items and they have some meats and seafood, and all kinds of desserts and pastries. I can imagine that it gets really crowed at lunch and dinner, but there's an outdoor seating area for warmer times. We had a great time and can't wait to go back.
